More Information on Math Circles:
Math circle's have existed for at least a century, they originated as a form of community math education in eastern Europe, and have made the jump over to the US in the last 20-30 years. The main goal of a math circle is to show students at any age that math can be fun, beautiful, and engaging in its own right - something which math classes in school often fail to highlight. We do this by posing students with increasingly difficult puzzle-like problems which they will learn from while solving, these problems teach about topics in math which students will generally not have access to in a classroom setting until they reach college. Student's do not need to be particularly gifted or advanced in their math education in school to succeed in a math circle environment, as we will only be using the mathematical skills that they are expected to have already learned at their grade level; the only things your student needs to succeed in a math circle is a passion for problem solving and a willingness to engage as fully as they can!
